Schedules
We had a bit of a change of routine today. Sam has always gone to work with Claire rather than going to (expensive) daycare, but lately he’s got increasingly restless. Understandably so, as it’s not really interesting for a 14 month old. He starts school in 5 weeks, and for 2 weeks before that Claire’s parents are visiting and can look after him. But between now and then I’m going to be working later shifts (roughly 10-6) so that I can take Lauren to school, then cycle over to Claire’s office to drop Sam off before heading to my work. This lets Claire get up at 6 (a great sacrifice for her) and head straight to work, so by the time I drop Sam off she only has an hour to do, which is much more reasonable for him.
It went OK today. The kids slept together for the first time last night (with me to start with – they weren’t able to settle separately for some reason). So they both slept in until 7:40, which put us a bit behind schedule. We walked to school (Sam rode, but Lauren did it all by herself), then rushed back, I got changed, and put Sam in my bike trailer (which I’d fitted to my bike along with some mud guards at 5 this morning). He protested, mainly because he has to wear a cycle helmet without having a proper chin to hold it in place yet, but quickly fell asleep. So a qualified success.
