Going Solo
Claire is away in LA for work, so I’m a cool single dad at the moment. Hence the next few entries may be a little more detailed, as I’m trying to keep her up to date too.
Sam cried a little as we left the airport, and the first thing Lauren said to me was “Sam misses Mommy”, which I think had an element of transference in it. But since then they’ve been fine, except for Sam wandering the house a couple of times looking for Claire. We had a poor first morning getting ready for school (though still made it in time), but this morning they both slept until 7:45, so I was able to have everything lined up ready to feed, dress, cleanse and ship ’em.
We met a little girl at the lake last night called Veronica, who Lauren managed to play with some while I chatted with her Brummy dad (small world). Sam and Lauren both ended up wandering into the lake too far, so they travelled home half dressed to dry off.
This weekend should be busy; Art Fair Saturday morning, gardening in the afternoon, swimming in the evening. On Sunday I’m rowing while they visit Maggie, then playing before going to Lake Harriet to hang out with Lauren’s best friend Ceolla. We may even fit in 10 minutes of tidying somewhere.
I had forgotten how cute little kids look carrying their lunch bags in to school – I’ll try to get a photo.
