Funeral

We’ve been travelling a lot recently – Claire’s Granddad had been suffering from cancer for some time, and following recent problems was diagnosed as terminal.  He went downhill rapidly, so we went up to Leeds to let Claire see him.  The following week we got news that he had died, so late last week we were up again for the funeral.  And next week is half term, so after a stop-off in London for my cousin’s birthday Claire and the kids are heading to Leeds.

The kids have done well with all the upheaval, though they’re a little disappointed that Claire will be going with them next week.  They sort of understand what happened – Sam was saying that he’ll get big, but not for a while, and he’ll die, but not for a long long time – but their great-granddad was a distant figure so I don’t think this will stick with them too much.
