Irons

Sam is doing a project at school about the past, part of which is talking to old people like Claire and me about the ancient past when we were young.  To avoid yet another child talking about ration books we sat Sam down to interview my cousin James, who did 17th Century re-enactments when he was young.  Sam asked him questions about Beavis Gitings, the illiterate pot boy at the local inn.  One of his (unprompted) questions was whether they had irons.  We think they’d been discussing the cast iron irons at school, and Sam was looking for something to talk about.
