Mini Holiday
The kids had a couple of days off at the end of last week for teacher training. On Thursday I took them to Marwell Zoo, which was rather good; because it was just their school that was off, rather than the whole county, it was really quiet. That did mean a paucity of ice cream, but we managed to hunt some down eventually. It does always feel like an expensive (£30) way to visit a couple of playgrounds, but that’s the grump in me: The kids were very excited to see all the animals, at least for the first couple of hours, after which they gradually shifted their thoughts to the inside of the gift shop.
Friday was Ikea day for the whole family, and again it was (relatively) quiet. We loaded up on shelves and the like for the kids’ rooms, so much so that I had to drive home, unload, then return to Southampton for the family. Then Saturday and Sunday were spent decorating Sam’s room (done bar one wall that needs a radiator removing, which Grandad will do this weekend) and manipulating chipboard. Oh, and I also had to take a jigsaw to the built-in cupboard in Sam’s room to make the bed fit under it. The joys of improvisational DIY.
One other highlight was the unwrapping of our Wii Fit (nominally for Mother’s Day). Much fun, and surprisingly motivating when ones Mii inspires the comment “oh look, fat daddy”.
